NFL: tackle Lane Johnson injured in the abdominal region

PHILADELPHIA — The Eagles are hopeful tackle Lane Johnson can return to play in the playoffs, but he has a torn tendon in his abdominal area and isn’t expected to return to play in the regular season, a learned from Adam Schefter ofESPN.

Johnson underwent magnetic resonance imaging, which confirmed the nature of the injury he suffered in the fourth quarter Saturday in the loss to the Cowboys.

Jack Driscoll replaced Johnson for the rest of the game. Going forward, the Eagles also have the option of moving right tackle Jordan Mailata and replacing him on left with 2019 first-round pick Andre Dillard.

Johnson was forced out of the Eagles’ game against the New York Giants in Week 14 with abdominal strain. He was restricted in his attendance for a portion of practice the following week, but he had played against the Chicago Bears and there were no medical notes before the game against the Cowboys.

The Eagles are also struggling with an injury to quarterback Jalen Hurts, who missed Saturday’s game with a shoulder injury. His status for the game against the Saints next week is still uncertain, sources told Schefter.

The 32-year-old Johnson was selected for his fourth Pro Bowl this year and started all 15 games for the Eagles. He hasn’t allowed a quarterback sack since Week 11 of the 2020 season, according to Pro Football Focus data.

The Eagles have the best record in the NFL with 13 wins and two losses.
