NFL: Rams claim Baker Mayfield on waivers

The Los Angeles Rams claimed quarterback Baker Mayfield off waivers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports, days after he was released by the Carolina Panthers.

The Rams (3-9) will have to pay the remaining salary on his contract, which is $1.35 million. He is expected to travel to LA tonight and could face the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday.

The Panthers (4-8) released him on Sunday and it was a mutual decision, according to ESPN.

The 27-year-old Mayfield joined the Carolina club this season after playing the first four seasons of his career with the Cleveland Browns.

In seven games this season, including six starts, he has thrown for 1,313 yards and six touchdowns.

Mayfield was replaced as the starting quarterback after going 1-5 early in the season.
