PRE-MATCH

ORCHARD PARK, NY – Growing up in Houston and spending his college career in Alabama, the Dolphins of Miami Jaylen Waddle admitted never having taken part in a game where it was snowing.

And the possibility of doing it on Saturday night, when the Dolphins (8-5) travel to face the buffalo bills (10-3) in an AFC East Division matchup is barely noticeable for the player in his second year in the NFL. Especially given what is at stake.

When asked if he was packing extra gear to deal with the cold and snow forecast, Waddle replied, “Our competitive spirit. That’s it. That’s what I’ll bring. »

Putting aside the distraction of the weather and how it could affect two teams whose players are mostly from hot locations, Waddle is more focused on the Dolphins’ bid to clinch a playoff berth for the first time in six seasons and their chances of winning the section title.

The Dolphins have an opportunity to sweep the series against the Bills after a 21-19 victory in September, and, just as importantly, to end a two-game losing streak. This nasty streak dropped them to sixth place in the race for the American playoffs.

The Dolphins will face an opponent who has won four consecutive games, while facing a completely different set of weather conditions. The Bills had some misfires in Florida’s 32-degree heat in their previous matchup.

“Yes, it’s kind of ironic or I don’t know what kind of word can describe that,” the Bills quarterback said. Josh Allen about what could be a temperature difference of nearly 35 degrees, not including heat index and wind chill, between the two sides.

“It’s poetic, I dare to believe that we can say that, added Allen. Playing in December in Buffalo is not the easiest task to accomplish. »

The Bills are much more accustomed to the cold, going 10-1, including in the playoffs, in home games played after Nov. 29 since 2020. The Bills are 7-2 in their last nine meetings at December home game against the Dolphins, not to mention a 16-3 loss in Buffalo’s so-called home game played indoors in Toronto in 2008.

The American-leading Bills are one win away from a fourth straight playoff berth and have the chance to win their third straight division title. Buffalo will also want to catch up after the last meeting between the two clubs, in which they lost a 17-14 lead in the third quarter and lost despite leading 497-212 in yards gained.
