NBA: scoring 100 points is no longer a safe course to win a game

If there is a magic number in the NBA, this is 100.

Wilt Chamberlain’s record for points in a game. The perfect hit rate for shots.

And before, the general rule seemed that if a team got 100 points in a game, they had a good chance of winning. This is no longer true.

Clubs scoring 100 or more points lose 45% of their matches this season, the highest such rate in more than 50 years.

Orlando is 4-16 by such a standard, Detroit 6-14 and Houston 7-15.

Nearly 50 players are on track to deliver a season of at least 20 points per game, on average.

10 years ago, only 11 players had achieved the feat.

It is certain that several members of the group will not be chosen for the all-star game – there are simply not enough places in these formations.

“We have a lot of really good shooters,” said Kevin Durant of the Nets, seventh with averaging 29.9 points per game this season. It keeps the defenses on the lookout. »

He was talking about the Nets, but that could apply to the whole league.

The NBA average this season is 113 points per game, 13 points more than eight seasons ago.

A lot of that comes from the emphasis on three-point shots. They were successful in record numbers in 2021-22, and the current season points to similar numbers.

In 2014-15, the Clippers averaged 106.9 points, ranking second in the league. This season they are at 107.2 – the very last place in the circuit.

In the first 351 games of the season, only 10 times have a club won with less than 100 points – one of those games was a Raptors win at Miami in October.

Minnesota went 20-0 last season collecting at least 126 points

This season, their record in that regard is 4-3.
