Morocco reaches the semi-finals and writes history thanks to a royal defense – Liberation

2022 World Cup in Qatardossier

At the end of a match which was a lot of attack-defense, the Moroccans won their ticket to face the winner of England-France. The Atlas Lions are the first African selection to reach the last four of a World Cup.

Even the most optimistic of Moroccan supporters wondered how long the red and green could hold the Portuguese siege. But they did it: thanks to a goal by Youssef En-Nesyri just before half-time and an iron defence, Morocco qualified (1-0) for the first time in history in the semi-finals of World Cup. You have to realize the feat that the Moroccan selection has just achieved: it is the first time that a team from the African continent has reached this stage of the competition.

Despite more than 70% possession of the ball, Cristiano Ronaldo and his family could never force the lock on their opponents. After this resounding feat, Walid Regragui’s players still rank among the best defenses in the world with only one goal conceded in the last 9 games – and again, it was an own goal from Nayef Aguerd against Canada. Morocco will face the winner of the England-France match, which takes place this Saturday at 8 p.m.
