Morocco loses to Croatia, Hakimi goes berserk until he curses the FIFA president Page all

KOMPAS.com – The star of the Moroccan national team, Achraf Hakimi, was reportedly emotional to the point of uttering harsh words to FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, after the match for third place in the 2022 World Cup against Croatia.

Reports from several journalists said that Hakimi lost control in the stadium hallway and protested to Gianni Infantino regarding the referee’s performance.

The Croatia vs Morocco match was held at the Khalifa Internatinoal Stadium on Saturday (17/12/2022) evening WIB.

The Croatian national team has successfully locked in third place for Qatar in the 2022 World Cup after beating Morocco with a narrow score of 2-1.

Right after the long whistle sounded, Hakimi and several players from the Moroccan national team immediately surrounded the referee Abdulrahman Al-Jassim.

Hakimi became one of the Moroccan national team players who looked the most emotional when he protested against Al-Jassim.

The Moroccan goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, seemed to have choked Hakimi to separate his team-mates who had lost control.

The Moroccan coach, Walid Reragugui, also took to the field to calm Hakimi.

Quoted from Goal, Hakimi was still emotional when he saw Gianni Infantino in the stadium hallway.

Gianni Infantino was preparing to enter the field to attend the 2022 World Cup bronze medal ceremony.

It was at that moment that Hakimi “attacked” Gianni Infantino.

According to a TV presenter from the Netherlands, Tom Egbers, Hakimi swore at Gianni Infantino from about five centimeters away.

“Hakimi stood in front of Infantino less than five centimeters. Hakimi’s voice was very high. He cursed Infantino about the referee. It was very hurtful,” said Tom Egbers quoted from NOS.

The same thing was also expressed by Magenta TV reporter, Thomas Wagner.

According to Wagner, the heated incident in the hallway at the Khalifa International Stadium began to subside after officers brought Hakimi into the locker room.

Thomas Wagner admitted that he was surprised that Gianni Infantino did not react even though Hakimi said harsh words.

“I have never seen anything like this. Hakimi insulted Infantino with harsh words. Hakimi had said: ‘Does FIFA not want Morocco to get a medal?’,” said Thomas Wagner as quoted from Yahoo Sports.

“Judgei then had to be escorted to the locker room by officers. I was surprised that Infantino handled the situation so casually,” said Thomas Wagner.

The SVT Sports journalist, Johan Kucukaslan, also said that Infantino did not react when he was “attacked” by Hakimi.

However, Johan Kucukaslan criticized the attitude of FIFA people who immediately asked all journalists in the stadium aisle to delete the documentation of the incident between Hakimi and Infantino.

“Hakimi very loudly said that ‘This is the second match in a row. You (Infantino) did this to us. What’s wrong with you?’,” said Johan.

“They (FIFA) wanted us to delete photos of the incident. It was clear that the incident was very embarrassing for them. They were a little naive to think that journalists should not report the incident, even though we witnessed it,” said Johan.

“After the incident, Infantino entered the field and was booed by the audience. Maybe it was not a good moment for Infantino. However, Infantino handled the incident in the stadium hallway professionally,” Johan added.

Moroccan Player Statement

Anas Zrouri was one of the Moroccan players who openly responded to the performance of the Croatian vs Morocco referee.

According to Anas, the Moroccan national team would most likely win if the referee Al-Jassim was fairer.

“We played a great match against Croatia and could have won if it weren’t for the referee’s mistake that affected the players,” said Anas.

“Unfortunately, referees are sometimes unfair. The referees don’t give us justice. However, fourth place is a historic achievement for the Moroccan national team,” said the 22-year-old player.

Previously, the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) also sent an official protest to FIFA regarding the performance of the 2022 World Cup semifinal referee.

BBC Sports said the FRMF protested because it judged that the Moroccan national team should have received two penalties in their 2-0 defeat to France in the 2022 World Cup semi-finals.

Despite various refereeing controversies, Morocco has successfully made history at the 2022 World Cup.

The Moroccan national team is now listed as the African team and the Arab country with the highest achievement (ranked fourth) in the history of the World Cup.
