MLB players will be able to join the Cuban team at the Baseball Classic

Havana, December 24 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) has been informed that the United States has authorized athletes of Cuban origin, residing in this country, to join their team in the discipline V World Baseball Classic .

According to the digital site JIT, Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, president of FCB, said that “we received a communication from the organizers of the Clásico announcing that the license requested by them has been granted so that the Cuba team can register on their roster Cuban athletes, whether MLB or not, who reside in the United States.

“The communication clarifies that they will communicate the details of the license granted soon and once that happens we will be able to announce the pre-score of the Cuba team,” he added.

In this sense, “While we recognize these gestures as positive steps, it is necessary to emphasize that they were the only fair solution to the problem.”

“It is arbitrary and discriminatory that a permit from the United States government is required for the organizers of a sporting event to guarantee the participation of a country like Cuba.”

Our country, he said, “is not only the founder of these competitions, but has also earned its inclusion by qualifying like the rest of the 19 teams that will participate in V Clásico”.

“It is just as unfair that the Cuban athletes, because those we are going to call are Cubans, trained in our country and who, despite all the pressures, want to represent their people, also depend on an authorization from the American government to fulfill their mission. dreams of playing with the country where they were born,” he said.

Finally, “we would like to recognize and thank the work of MLB and the World Baseball and Softball Confederation in their role as organizers of the Classic. Cuba continues its preparation,” concluded Pérez Pardo.

The aforementioned event is scheduled for March 8-21, 2023.
