The son of seven-time F-1 champion Michael Schumacher, Mick spent two seasons with the Haas team, where he competed in 43 races. In the first season, the team was completely uncompetitive, but this season the German won 12 points, which gave him 16th place in the overall standings. It was not enough to keep his place in the team and he was replaced by Nico Hilkenberg.

Even before that, there was a possibility that Schumacher would become a reserve pilot in the “Mercedes” team, and now it has been confirmed. The team says that he will play an important role in the development of next season’s W14 formula and will also regularly work in the simulator. He will also travel to race weekends for marketing duties.

“Mercedes” is convinced that Schumacher with his maturity, technical knowledge and work ethic will help the team where his father Michael competed from 2010 to 2012.

“I am excited to be part of the Mercedes team in 2023. I am ready to give everything to help contribute to the team’s performance,” said Schumacher, relishing the opportunity to work in a competitive and professional environment. “I see this as a new beginning, I’m excited and grateful to Toto Wolff and everyone involved who trusted me.”

“Mercedes” team manager Toto Wolff praised Schumacher’s methodical approach and also indicated that he would be ready to replace Lewis Hamilton or George Russell if necessary.
