Latvian basketball player Mareks Mejeris scored 13 points in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Champions League game on Tuesday and contributed to the victory of the Israeli team Jerusalem “Hapoel”.

“Hapoel” defeated the German team “MHP Riesen” from Ludwigsburg with the score 87:81 (24:27, 23:18, 16:20, 24:16) in the match of subgroup E.
Mejeris spent 24 minutes and eight seconds on the court on Tuesday, hitting six of seven two-point shots and one of two “penalties”, but missing the only long shot. He also had five rebounds, one assist, four points, one turnover, one steal, a positive +/- (+11) and 16 efficiency points.
Zach Hankins led the winners with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Prentiss Hubb scored 18 points for the hosts.
“Hapoel” takes the first place in subgroup E with four wins in five games, Ludwigsburg team has three wins, Istanbul “Darişşafaka” has two successes, and Aarhus “Bakken Bears” one.
The format of the competition remains unchanged – 32 teams compete in eight groups of four units. The group winners immediately enter the round of 16, while the second and third place winners will compete in the “play-in” series in January 2023.
In the quarter-finals, the teams will play duels until two wins in April, and the season will end with the “Final Four” tournament in May.
Elsewhere, Andrejs Gražulis scored eight points in the ULEB Eurocup eighth round game on Tuesday and contributed to the victory of the Trento “Dolomiti Energia” team – 85:80 (16:20, 25:22, 23:20, 21:18) against Hamburg “Towers” basketball players.
Gražulis, playing 20 minutes and 42 seconds, made four of six two-point shots, but missed the only long shot. The Cockney native also had two rebounds, two assists, two turnovers, one foul, two fouls and ten efficiency points.
Mattia Udom was the top scorer for the home team with 18 points, while James Wooderd scored 23 points for the opponents.
The Trento team is in ninth place in subgroup B with two wins in eight matches.
In the ULEB Eurocup main tournament, 20 teams are divided into two groups of ten teams each. The eight best teams from each group will enter the elimination tournament, which will start from the round of 16.
Last season, the basketball players of “Virtus” from Bologna, who beat “Bursaspor” in the final, became the champions.
