McCourt’s demands for the takeover of Marseille

The soap opera around the OM Sale is experiencing a new twist. Frank McCourt would be ready to sell his club, but would ask for a very high amount.

Announced for several years, the theory concerning a hypothetical sale of Olympique de Marseille resurfaced. Owner of the Marseille club since August 29, 2016, Frank McCourt is regularly shown at the crenel to ensure that OM was not for sale, thus repeatedly sweeping away the rumors of the corridors evoking a potential takeover of the club. However, the reality seems quite different internally.

According to the latest information revealed by the journalist Romain Molina, the American billionaire would just hold a facade speech, because in the end, he would indeed intend to sell OM to new investors. The former boss of the American baseball franchise of the Los Angeles Dodgers has even already organized several discreet meetings in order to finalize the OM Sale. Problem, the American businessman would claim too high a sum.

OM sale: Frank McCourt expects a colossal check

In a video for GoneBack, Romain Molina indeed reveals that wealthy Emirati dignitaries were very interested in a potential takeover of Olympique de Marseille. But the latter were finally cooled by the high demands of Frank McCourt, who would expect an amount of 500 million euros before giving up his club “800 M€, we will never find a buyer! At 400/500M€ yes. It’s like Frank McCourt. This summer, he claimed €500m from the Emirates. Of course, it didn’t happen… There is the same logic between Lyon, Marseille, Saint-Étienne too. They claim fortunes. Club owners in France are asking for far too high sums”he explained.

After spending around 40 million euros at the time to buy the club from the hands of Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, the American businessman is now waiting for a colossal check before selling OM. His demands would have finally scared off potential buyers. To the point where few, if any, investors would now demonstrate for any takeover of Olympique de Marseille. In this case, Frank McCourt seems set to continue at the head of the Marseille club.
