Shortly before Christmas, the Stealers announce Marco Cardoso’s commitment on their website and social media channels. Stealers head coach David Wohlgemuth describes Cardoso as a ‘king transfer’. A few days ago, the Stealers announced Pablo González’s signing (Link).

“Hello Hamburg, I hope you’re in the mood for a great season!” Cardoso introduced himself to his new employer and his fans with a typical North German greeting. “I’ve been thinking about moving back north and closer to my family for a long time. You can’t get past Hamburg. This city has enchanted me, the type of people attracts and convinces me.”

Goal: 2K23 champions

Cardoso’s goal for the coming season is ambitious: “I want to show people why it’s important to play with passion and energy in order to ultimately bring the championship to Hamburg.”

Bundesliga debut at 15

The 23-year-old Cardoso started baseball in 2007 and was with the Untouchables in his hometown of Paderborn until 2021. He made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 15. In addition, the infielder signed a five-year contract with the Boston Red Sox in July 2017 and took part in two MiLB training camps in the Dominican Republic during this time.

In 2022 Cardoso switched to the southern division of the 1st Bundesliga and played there for Stuttgart. It was a rather disappointing season for the Reds, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the play-offs.

Infield coach at the ElbAkademie

In addition to his work in the Bundesliga team, the German national player Cardoso will also work as an infield coach in the Hamburg ElbAkademie and thus pass on his experience to the north German baseball youth.
