Manchester United secures comeback against Nottingham Forest

In control on their lawn at Old Trafford, Manchester United defeated promoted Nottingham Forest (3-0).

Resumption all in control for Manchester United. In the rain at Old Trafford, Erik Ten Hag’s men quietly dominated Nottingham Forest on Tuesday (3-0) and are approaching the Top 4 of this Premier League. For their first outing without Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract was terminated just before the World Cup, the Mancunians displayed an attractive face and signed their biggest victory this season in the league.

From the first moments of the game, the locals put their foot on the ball and keep the visitors in their camp. A domination fairly quickly validated by Marcus Rashford who unblocks the situation after 20 short minutes of play by taking a corner kick with the right foot, cleverly kicked low by Christian Eriksen. And only three minutes later, Anthony Martial goes to make the break by concluding a remarkable counter-attack initiated by Bruno Fernandes. The ball from the Portuguese for Rashford is perfect, as is the inside hook of the first scorer of the evening which allows him to serve on the former Monegasque on a plateau. With a flat right foot, the French scored his third league goal this season.

Fred finishes the job

The promoted then believed to be back in the game but Ryan Yates’ header, on receiving a free kick from Renan Lodi, was blocked by Willy Boly, whose offside position forced referee Anthony Taylor to invalidate the goal . It is therefore with a fairly comfortable advantage that Eric Ten Hag’s men join their locker room after 45 minutes (almost) fully mastered.

After the break, the Mancunians try to get warm for good but Antony (55e), Martial (59e) and Rashford (66e) come up against Wayne Hennessey who then preserves the tiny hopes of the promoted. The Nottingham players are struggling to falter the Mancunian rearguard and will finally concede a third goal, signed Fred in the 87the minute. The Brazilian inherits a ball perfectly slipped into the area by his compatriot Casemiro to deceive Hennessey with a flat left foot. What to endorse the success of the men of Erik Ten Hag who return to a small point of the 4e place occupied by Tottenham. For their part, Forest players remain stuck in the red zone (19e).
