Lega Basket Serie A – Umana Reyer Venezia, Watt full court: “My basketball philosophy has the most total vision possible”

Interviewed by Francesca Castagna on the “Corriere dello Sport”, Mitchell Watt spoke of his very pragmatic philosophy of play: “I put a lot of emphasis on both phases, including the defense of the pick and roll and under the basket. Offensively my philosophy is as total a vision as possible. How to best conclude possessions, but also what I can do to contribute when the conclusion fails. I don’t handle the ball, but I try to open up spaces, to get between my teammates.”

Watt also underlined his relationship with coach De Raffaele: “Over the years we have known each other in our strengths and weaknesses. There is a trust and understanding born of the great experiences we had together. In five words he conveys to me concepts for which twenty would be needed, he helps me translate his ideas into the field ”.

“I’m in a wonderful phase of my career – concludes Watt – the balance between experience and physical possibilities is unequal, in basketball you always learn something but it’s not said that you can express it on the court. Now I feel that I can benefit from the experience gained, and it’s nice to be at this point, it makes me think about how many things I can conquer”.
