Judo Mixed Team Tournament: End of the season with a fun factor

(JTH) December 11, 2022 – At the end of the season, the judo team Holten traveled to Holzwickede last weekend for the mixed team tournament, in which men and women compete together in one team and where fun is the main focus. Together with the Osterather fighters Laura Schumann, Ole Maskert, Michelle Bazynski and Florian and Sebastian Menz, the Holteners had Thilo Titze, Lars Hoffmann, Kostas Romas, Markus Rohde, Matthias Czepull, Leonie Czogalla, Robin Ellerbrock, Michael Grieß, Ida Doczyck, Christian Beckmann and Niklas Gansser formed a fighting community, after all there were nine weight classes with four female judoka.

Fifth place and an honor

The Holtener-Osterather fighting community won the first two encounters with 8:1 and 6:2. But both the semifinals and the fight for third place were lost 1:8. In the end there was a fifth place – neither for the Holtener:innen nor for the Osterather:innen a reason to be sad, because both teams were honored with a trophy for their success in the state league before the fights: the second team of the JTH for first place and the associated promotion to the association league, the Osterather for third place. Jan Scheuer, who was subsequently nominated for the German championship, was also happy to join Christian Beckmann, Michael Grieß and Robin Ellerbrock in Stuttgart at the end of January.

Ellerbrock and Scheuer qualified or nominated for DM

Ellerbrock had finished fifth at the qualifying West German championship in mid-November, but did not want to rely on a subsequent nomination due to better undervaluation or luck and therefore competed at the DJB ranking tournament in Lünen at the end of November together with Denny Koppers and Jan Scheuer. Here he prevailed with a strong daily performance and came in first place -100 kg. Denny Koppers improved from seventh to fifth place compared to the West Germans, but met strong opponents in Vincent Wieneke and Matti Göbel and later placed first and third respectively. Despite the increase in performance, it was not enough for a secure place on the podium and – as of now – for the ticket to Stuttgart.
