Italian cycling world mourns again: Vittorio Adorni has passed away | cycling

It was Felice Gimondi’s daughter who announced the news on Facebook.

Gimondi, another Italian cycling legend, passed away in 2019 at the age of 77.

“Ciao, Vittorio,” his daughter Norma Gimondi wrote today. “Give my regards to my father.”

Adorni was admitted yesterday, according to Italian media, and died in hospital today.

The Italian was a professional from 1961 to 1970.

In 1965 he won the Tour of Italy, in 1968 he became world champion in Imola.

That rainbow jersey was the crowning achievement of his career: he won it after a race of 90 kilometers. Herman Vanspringel then became 2nd at no less than 9’50”.

Adorni collected top 10 places in the other monuments and also won 11 stages in the Giro.

Vittorio Adorni was still working for a few teams after his professional career. He was also a commentator for the Italian public broadcaster and also took up positions in some cycling organizations.
