Sofiane Boufal, one of the discoveries in Qatar, went to pick up his mother in the stands after the final whistle and danced with her on the field. Boufal took her from the stands and then performed a dance on the turf for the Moroccan fans. Visibly enjoying, a moment with the two of them there is forever etched in their memory. “It’s crazy what we’re all experiencing here,” Boufal told TF1 afterwards. “We are living a dream and I don’t want to wake up. I have goosebumps all over. We deserve this because we work extremely hard. This is not the end…”

Sofyan, at Club Brugge between 2018 and 2020, is a crucial pawn in midfield. Proud big brother Nordin, 64-time international but no longer active in the national team, was not dry. “I am so emotional and so proud. I almost cry. My parents also cried.”

It’s really incredible.” This is followed by a meaningful kiss on Sofyan’s forehead. “I am really speechless. Have goosebumps. May I experience this as a brother. It is unbelievable.” Sofyan also speaks: “Nordin deserves it too. He helps me in my career. He is a great example to me.”
