Greece: 8,500 spectators for the All-Star Game

The president of the Greek league (ESAKE), Vangelis Galatsopoulos, was pleased with the attendance of the 25th All Star Game: 8,500 spectators at the OAKA in Athens.

« We re-established the All Star Game institution after a 4-year break, and after Patras, Thessaloniki and Heraklion with my proposal which was unanimously approved by the ESAKE board, we did it at OAKA, with the idea that it’s a beautiful show that should be held in a beautiful place like OAKA. It was a conscious choice. It was a happy fact that families and children came to OAKA and the attendance was 8,500. The second important event was the celebration of 30 years of ESAKE, the creation of the Digital Hall of Fame with the entry of the first 30 sportsmen who made up the history of Greek basketball and the 3 coaches, the late Dusan Ivkovic, Yiannis Ioannidis and Zelimir Obradovic.«

The problem is that the OAKA – this is where the final phase of the basketball tournament of the 2004 Olympic Games was held – contains nearly 20,000 seats so it’s a bit empty… To be compared with the Accor Arena routinely filled with over 16,000 spectators for the LNB All-Star Game.

The team of Sasa Vezenkov, who was elected MVP, won 137-112 over that of Georgios Papagiannis and Moustapha Fall scored 21 points.
