GIANNI INFANTINO today announced the creation of a new Club World Cup with 32 teams that will begin to be played from 2025.
Without specifying the details about his classification, something that will be specified in the future, the Swiss said that the game format will be like the current World Cup for national teams, with a frequency of four years.
“The new Men’s Club World Cup will take place in 2025 and will have 32 teams. We are going to do it like a World Cup”he said during a press conference in Doha.
Currently, the tournament takes place annually with the champions of each continental confederation and the league winner of the organizing country.
By the way, Infantino announced that the next edition will be held from February 1 to 11 in Morocco.
Those classified so far are Real Madrid (Spain), Flamengo (Brazil), Seattle Sounders (United States), Wydad Casablanca (Morocco) and Auckland City (New Zealand). The representatives of Asia and Africa remain to be defined.
Regarding the dream of all of South America to organize the 2030 World Cup, Infantino said: “The choice of the venue will be announced in 2024. The World Cup in Qatar has been a success on all levels”he added.
