Fritz: “Whether it’s an exhibition or an ATP tournament, I always try to win”

Despite a season ending marked by irregularity, Taylor Fritz has given several surprises throughout the year on the ATP circuit. The North American has raised three of the four titles that he owns in his collection in 2022. Fritz’s first big blow, his most important feat to date, was struck on familiar ground. Last March, Taylor brought out the best tennis out of him to beat Rafael Nadal in the final of Indian Wells with a victory that completely exceeded expectations.

Go for victory regardless of the type of tournament

In June he beat his compatriot Maxime Cressy to repeat his victory in Eastbourne, while in October he did the same against Frances Tiafoe to get his first ATP 500 in Tokyo and get closer to the eight masters who would play the ATP Finals. Finally, his classification was caused by the loss of Carlos Alcaraz, but if Taylor Fritz has shown something, it is the demand with which he presents himself on each occasion: “Every time I go to an event, be it an exhibition or an ATP tournament, whatever, if I go to an event, then I’m going to try to win it”, said the one from California, now in the final of the Straight Tennis Cupalready thinking about achieving optimal preparation to start the next season on the right foot.

Medvedev, his last obstacle to the grand prix

In the semifinals of the exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia, Fritz beat Norrie in the super tiebreak: “Playing against Cameron Norrie is difficult because you have to be patient. The moment I had the option to go for the winner, I went for it. He always moves me around the track a lot and he could have beaten me if he had been too patient”. Now in the final, Taylor will have to beat Daniil Medvedev if he wants to win the million dollar prize.
