There is one more prize that will be awarded at the Ballon d’Or ceremony: the Sócrates prize.
According to the note released by France Football and L’Équipe, the distinction will reward “solidarity actions carried out by committed champions”. This distinction was born out of a partnership between the two publications and the organization «Peace and Sport».
Sócrates was, remember, a former Brazilian international who became famous for his fight off the pitch in favor of democracy. He was one of the faces of the «Corinthian Democracy» movement and earned the nickname of Doctor for being a doctor by profession.
