Helmond Sport presented Bob Peeters as the new head coach on Friday. The Belgian is no stranger to the Netherlands, where he enjoyed cult status as a striker around the turn of the century. TOP Oss said goodbye to trainer Kristof Aelbrecht.
Helmond Sport has also found a new head of scouting in Dirk Jan Derksen. After the recruitment of Jurgen Streppel as technical manager, the most important technical functions of the Kitchen Champion Division club have now been filled.
Peeters, who played as a footballer for Roda JC and Vitesse, among others, was at the helm of TOP Oss for one season in 2021. He also worked at various clubs in Belgium. The 48-year-old Fleming played thirteen times for the national team of Belgium. In 2000 Peeters won the cup tournament with Roda.
In 2000, the then Roda striker just missed out on the selection of the ‘Red Devils’ for the European Championships in the Netherlands and Belgium, after which he decided to cover the tournament for Flemish TV. Peeters won many hearts through his remarkable and cheerful contributions.
Peeters succeeds Swinnen in Oss
Peeters succeeds his compatriot Sven Swinnen, who was fired in October. Tim Bakens has been an interim trainer for the group ever since. Now Peeters, Derksen and Streppel can fulfill the high ambitions of Helmond Sport.
“I’m glad I’m going to work at this ambitious club,” says Peeters about his appointment at Helmond Sport. “I have good memories of my previous stay in the Netherlands at TOP Oss. The mentality of the people from Brabant suits me well. I think it is important that the synergy between players, staff and supporters is good.”
Helmond Sport currently occupies eighteenth place in the Kitchen Champion Division. On January 6, the people of Brabant will visit VVV-Venlo.
TOP Oss looking for a new trainer
Peeters’ former club TOP Oss got rid of trainer Kristof Aelbrecht on Friday after half a season. The disappointing performance of the Brabant club, which is nineteenth in the Kitchen Champion Division, cost the 41-year-old coach the head.
“I am sorry for the person and trainer Kristof Aelbrecht who committed himself 100 percent every day to TOP Oss,” says technical director Klaas Wels.
“Of course, the performance of Kristof, his staff and the performance of our team have been extensively evaluated in the past period. It was jointly concluded that there is too little mutual trust to turn the tide, which unfortunately made this decision unavoidable.”
Aelbrecht was appointed in June. Before that, he worked in the PSV youth academy and was an assistant coach at Fortuna Sittard.
