Footballer (25) dies in a swimming accident

Professional soccer player Elia Alessandrini has tragically died while vacationing in Oman.

Tragic news from Switzerland: The 25-year-old soccer professional Elia Alessandrini died while on vacation in Oman, as his Swiss second division club FC Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy announced on Saturday. According to Swiss media reports, he no longer appeared while swimming in the pool and died. Any medical measures could no longer save his life. His girlfriend witnessed everything.

The incident is said to have happened a few hours before the couple was due to return home. An exact cause of death is not yet known.

“He was a good-hearted person”

The mother of the deceased footballer told the Swiss newspaper “Blick”: “He was the best son you can imagine. He was a good-hearted person who was never in a bad mood and always smiled. He was sunshine.”

Alessandrini was trained in Switzerland at Young Boys Bern and also played for FC Thun. Until recently, the 25-year-old was under contract with FC Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy.

“Captain with body and soul, the red and white family mourns the loss of Elia Alessandrini. The stadium family loses a friend, a teammate and a role model for everyone,” writes FC Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy on Twitter.

“We were stunned to learn of the passing of our former youth player Elia Alessandrini. Elia Alessandrini died suddenly at the age of 25,” said a statement from Young Boys Bern.

Ex-club SC Kriens also mourns: “We are dismayed, stunned and mourn for Elia Alessandrini. Our former teammate, captain and friend to this day. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Elia.”

“The Swiss Football League expresses its deepest sympathy to his family and relatives,” said a statement from the Swiss Football League (SFL).
