Football Goal FC/Fabien Pujo: “At home we are very efficient”

He does not ignite, because the path that remains to be accomplished is so long that one is never sure of anything in National 2. Fabien Pujo, the Chasselois coach who knows his team is always looking for balance far from his local nest, savored the success of his group yesterday at home against Yzeure, a visitor from the second half of the table who did not hesitate to take the game on his own.

What is your analysis of the match after this new home victory against a team from Yzeure-Moulins who tried everything, especially in the first period?

“We are entering a winter period which is always complex, the championship becomes a little different because of the state of the field and the temperatures. My team approached the match seriously. We conceded few chances in the first period because the we wanted to stay in our positional game made of short passes while our goal was scored on rather long passes. We rectified in the second half, with more control. We remained serious in a match where you have to know how to be surgical and we have been. We have been able to rotate the squad. At home we are performing very well but we have to do better away to finish 2022 well.”

On the two goals that you score, we feel a greater complicity of your offensive elements. Is it a particular feature of your collective progress in a squad that had been largely modified this summer?

“It’s the time that the players spend together, the ability to get to know each other. Gradually, we realize that there is coordination between the passer and the receiver, a better synchronization, as on the second goal scored by Raspentino What I remember about this match, from the parallels of what speaks to them at the moment, there was reference to Morocco’s journey in the World Cup with their way of having 18 meters between defenders and attackers. “It’s a real block. They attack together and don’t give up anything. If you’re like that against this kind of opponent, it can only go well for you. That’s what we wanted to insist on. A Chamalières (3-1 defeat), we had more difficulties in this area. There, the players responded well on this first act. We will now recover well to go to Bourges this Wednesday, against a team that is a little better at the moment. We will finish in Vierzon on Saturday for our last game of the year.”

“We really wanted to make a reference match”

You remained on two matches without success with this defeat at Chamalières (3-1) and this draw at Bergerac (2-2). What observations did you draw from these meetings before hosting Yzeure?

“Maybe we, the staff, in addition to the individual cases of the players, weren’t great in the approach to the match, in what we wanted to do at Chamalières, from a tactical point of view even if we have had 70% possession. We failed in the duality on a synthetic pitch. We reacted in behavior at Bergerac, even if we led twice to get caught at the end. We gave two goals to Bergerac. For Yzeure, we really wanted to make a reference match, that is to say to win without conceding goals. Congratulations to the players, they are the ones who decide a lot of things.”

Now we see teams that no longer come to you in a waiting position in a low block but rather in a situation of taking initiatives. Does this change the way of approaching these meetings at home?

“If these opponents give us time with the ball, it means that we have players who with time are able to do great things on a technical level. Yzeure had a plan on Enzo (Reale), our recovery base , that did not prevent him from giving a good goal ball. We try to find flaws in the opponent, the reverse is also true. It’s up to us to continue like this.”
