Five reasons why Tom Brady should retire at the end of the season

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one win away from clinching the NFC South Division title for the second year in a row. It would be the third appearance in the Playoffs for ‘TB12’ since his arrival in Tampa Bay, prior to the 2020 season.

However, this version of the Bucs it is far from being able to compete with the best teams in the NFC, read Philadelphia, San Francisco and even Minnesota.

In early December, NFL Network reported that Brady has not ruled out playing one more season, although he would do so as a free agent.

That, in my opinion, would be a big mistake.

What’s more, here are the five reasons why Brady should retire at the end of the season:

1.- This is not ‘TB12′

A few years ago Brady said he would retire when it “sucks.” Sorry, but if no one has noticed yet, this campaign Tom Brady stinks!

If we look at the column for touchdown passes, ‘TB12’ only has 21, the lowest since the 24 he threw in his last season with the Patriots, in 2019.

His worst record in a 16-game season was in 2003, when he finished with 23 passes to the end zone. He has two games left in 2022 and it’s very difficult for him to surpass that mark, but Brady clearly isn’t comfortable on offense for the Bucs.

With the worst rushing attack in the league, one that generates just 77 yards per game, Brady has been forced to throw the ball more than any other quarterback in the NFL (671 attempts) and Tampa Bay’s offense isn’t built to depend on it. of the passing game…and that includes the quarterback.

2.- His personal life

We cannot separate this facet of his life because it is obvious that his divorce from Gisele Bündchen It affected him from training camp. He missed more than a week of practice in August and there was even speculation that he did so because he would make an appearance on ‘The Masked Singer’, something he eventually denied.

He really requested those days to continue with his divorce proceedings, which, according to reports, was triggered at the moment he decided to play one more season in the NFL, exactly 40 days after announcing his retirement on Instagram.

Dealing with the divorce and continuing his professional gaming career is something that even the “GOAT” apparently couldn’t handle.

3.- Your options in 2023

If Brady wants to play another year in the NFL (at 46 years old) he will have to study his options very well.

Many talk about San Francisco, but the 49ers have discovered they have two solid young quarterbacks in Trey Lance and “Mr. irrelevant” Brock Purdy.

A meeting with Josh McDaniels? That would make sense, because no one knows McDaniels’ offense better, with whom Brady has a great relationship, by the way.

But the Raiders’ big problem is their defense, which true to form is one of the worst in the league and doesn’t look like it can improve dramatically from year to year.

In other words, ‘TB12’ would be forced to produce more than 30 points every Sunday to aspire to victory. I don’t know Rick…

Other options could be New Orleans and Tennessee, where the head coach is his former teammate with the Patriots, Mike Vrabel. The problem with returning to the AFC is competing with the top three quarterbacks at the moment: Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen y Joe Burrow.

It’s not over there.

4.- Nothing to prove

I understand Brady’s spirit and ultra-competitive nature, but the GOAT has absolutely nothing to prove in the NFL.

I honestly don’t think any other quarterback can win seven Super Bowls (or at least I won’t get to see it) or pass for more than 100,000 yards.

Brady has won it all and even in his debut with the Buccaneers participated as a “general manager” to build a Super Bowl champion.

To think that he can win another title at the age of 46 is foolish and an unprecedented act of self-centeredness.

5.- His contract with FOX

In May, Brady reached a settlement for $375 million dollars and 10 years to become the lead analyst for the FOX Sports network. The contract is activated at the moment in which ‘TB12 ′ announces the withdrawal of it.

Brady will earn between $20 and $25 million per season, which is more than $18 million. Troy Aikman y Tony Romothe star analysts for ESPN and CBS, respectively.

Can you imagine the level of analysis that Brady can give us from the broadcast box? I can not wait, either.
