‘In Burgum the ice is slightly thicker than here,’ said Jan Geert Veldman, chairman of ice club De Hondsrug in Noordlaren, shortly after 8 a.m. on Radio Noord. ‘We have just under three centimeters of ice on one side and that’s just the rules. The temperature was so disappointing that we didn’t make good ice cream last night. It was -4 and only towards morning -7, -8. It’s no different, better next year.’
