Fernando Jaramillo was confirmed as president of the Dimayorthe highest entity that governs professional Colombian soccer tournaments, after having 26 votes in his favor that allowed him to maintain his position.
After completing the annual Assembly and ratification as president, Fernando Jaramillo told ESPN F90 details about what has been proposed to improve the BetPlay League in terms of its game formats, plan to have a more regular Women’s League and if Deportivo Pereira will be able to play the Copa Libertadores.
Regarding the BetPlay League, Fernando Jaramillo clarified that the tournament it will continue to be two champions per year with the format all against all and then two final home runs.
Sin embargo, cHe confessed that within the plan for the future he wants to have a long tournament, with a champion, but maintaining the current home runs at the end of the championship and the relegation would be decided with the last two, removing the average.
“The basis of the idea is to hold the championship in one year, surely at the end with home runs and simply for the last two to drop. However, you have to polish it and work on it hand in hand with the clubs. We hope that at some point the championship can be changed to one year, but for now we remain the same”, acknowledged Fernando Jaramillo.
On the other hand, he spoke of Deportivo Pereira and his possible non-participation in the Copa Libertadores and cleared up doubts about the current Colombian soccer champion.
“The star has been awarded and he is a champion with current sports recognition. A legal process must be followed and a decision will be made within the assembly, but Pereira he will play the Copa Libertadores,” confirmed Jaramillo.
Theme Women’s League:
Regarding women’s soccer in Colombia, Fernando Jaramillo recognized that work still needs to be done to have stable competition, since it has existed for more than six years and the players must maintain their good rhythm of competition, but it all depends on the clubs that participate. Well, he believes that there are sponsors who want to financially inject the project, but who, as president, is looking to hold two tournaments with two champions in the short term to have a stable Women’s League.
“For the Women’s League there are 17 confirmed clubs, but there are another three that are going to confirm for a total of 20 clubs. There are resources for the realization of this league. Many fear that once the euphoria for the U17 of India subsided, it would fall. It would be starting in January or February, we will see if we finish it in June or September, because we must remember that there is a Women’s World Cup in July and we have the Women’s Copa Libertadores in October”, concluded Fernando Jaramillo
