FC Groningen no longer with Ngonge: ‘He does not meet our standards’ | Football

FC Groningen will no longer continue with Cyril Ngonge. According to the northerners, the 22-year-old attacker does not meet the club’s standards and may leave immediately.

“Cyril is a talented player,” said technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus on the FC Groningen website on Thursday. “But although he has often been reminded of this, he does not meet the standards and requirements that we set for training and playing football at FC Groningen.”

Ngonge received the “maximum fine” from FC Groningen last month because he arrived too late for training. In September he was already removed from the selection for disciplinary reasons and last month he was sent from training.

In anticipation of a new club, Ngonge is training with FC Groningen under 21 for the time being. He still has an ongoing contract in the Euroborg until the summer of 2025.

Ngonge played in twelve league games for FC Groningen this season. He scored three goals in that. FC Groningen is currently fifteenth in the Eredivisie with twelve points.

Last season, Ngonge went all over the world with a rarely seen heel goal against AZ. The goal was nominated for the Puskás Award and was voted goal of the season in the Eredivisie.
