Evra drops a bombshell on Ronaldo’s future

Patrice Evra played for many seasons at Manchester United with Cristiano Ronaldo. The 41-year-old Frenchman, retired from the field, gave his point of view on the future of the Portuguese, now without a club contract and who finished on the bench at the World Cup with his nation.

Cristiano Ronaldo is at a crossroads. The 37-year-old striker is in doubt about his future. Without a club since his departure with a bang from Manchester United, the five-time Ballon d’Or hopes to sign in a high-level European club, but no one is rushing to the gate to sign him.

Like last summer, when Cristiano Ronaldo tried unsuccessfully to join a Champions League side, while Man Utd only played in the Europa League, European clubs are not ready to bet on the striker, aged and expensive in salary. According to journalist Rudy Galetti, the former Madrid player could find a way out in the Middle East. Indeed, Cristiano Ronaldo will soon meet, in Dubai, the boss of the Saudi club Al-Nassr, trained by Rudi Garcia, who expressed interest in the possibility of coaching the striker.

Evra thinks about international retirement for Ronaldo

For his part, Patrice Evra mentioned to him, for Sky Sports, the international future of the Portuguese. After 196 selections, and a rather unremarkable World Cup (1 goal in 5 games), which the former Juventus player finished on the sidelines (in the round of 16 and in the quarter-finals), Cristiano Ronaldo could hang up his crampons: “What is Ronaldo going to do? I do not know. (Lionel) Messi said he would retire (from the World Cup), but I don’t know if (Cristiano) Ronaldo will. (…) Even if I will not speak for Cristiano, I would not be surprised if he announces that he will retire. Now everything Cristiano (Ronaldo) does (with the selection) he is described as ‘a bad person’, a ‘bad player’ or whatever. I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to retire.

The deleterious atmosphere around his case could therefore force the Portuguese to step back, to focus on his future at the club, which is not yet determined. Unless the identity of the new coach of Portugal, who could be Jose Mourinhodoes not change the game.
