Ettore Messina: “It’s really painful to be defeated like this”

Ettore Messina spoke at the press conference after the defeat to Panathinaikos.

Losing to Panathinaikos, where he was a guest, in extra time, he could not prevent the streak of eight matches in Olimpia Milano, and coach Ettore Messina made evaluations after the match. The experienced coach did not hide his surprise and sadness.

“Congratulations to Panathinaikos. Even though they didn’t look good, they continued to believe in victory. We played well for 37-38 minutes and did the right things. We shared the ball, got the right shots and recorded 22 assists.”

“Incredible. It’s unbelievable to lose like this. It’s really painful to be defeated like that. Our offensive and final decisions in the last two minutes were not the best.”

Olimpia Milano had to go to the field with important shortcomings against Panathinaikos, as in the last periods. Ettore Messina said:

“I think we’ve improved since Luwawu-Cabarrot joined the team. Kevin Pangos is a very important piece for us even when Gigi Datome and Shavon Shields return.”

The experienced head coach commented that Milan is in a much worse course compared to last year, as follows:

“This year, the problems started from day one. We didn’t have time to build a stronger unity as a team. I can’t complain about any training or match related effort. We just lack a bit of luck and composure in critical moments.”

EuroLeague With the longest losing streak in its history of 10 games, Milan will have two chances next week to end their current eight-game streak. The Italian team will play first with Maccabi Tel Aviv and then with Red Star during the double match week.
