director foils robbery at the Tor San Lorenzo post office

She was handing tickets to elderly people waiting in line for retirement outside the post office when she was approached by two men with their faces hidden by surgical masks. Without fanfare, one of the two then showed a pistol to the Post Director, threatening her: “It’s a robbery, give me the money” and she let her into the premises. However, the official kept her cool and after a few steps she replied to the robber: “The safe won’t open. It’s timed”. A curt “no” that made the criminal give up, then escape empty-handed with his accomplices. The attempted robbery in Tor San Lorenzo, in the municipality of Ardea.

The facts at 10:30 on Thursday 1 November in front of the dozens of users present inside and outside the premises in Largo San Lorenzo. Three robbers, with baseball caps and masks, who have divided the roles in an established script: a man driving a car and one of the two criminals outside the offices to act as a ‘lookout’ at the entrance. The third – armed with a pistol – threatened the official by going with her to the counters where the postal workers were at work.

Despite the threats, the director informed the criminal that she could not open the safe. That was enough to make him desist from his criminal intent. Once out of the offices with his accomplice, he then boarded a car – driven by the third person – and they fled.

Shocked but unharmed, the director then requested the intervention of 112. The carabinieri of the Tor San Lorenzo station and those of the mobile radio unit of the Anzio company then intervened on the spot. Having listened to the testimony of the director and of the people present, the military of the weapon acquired the video surveillance images of the post office and of the nearby commercial activities in search of useful elements to trace the gang of robbers, who has managed to hide their tracks at the moment.
