MEXICALI.- Sport is a physical activity that helps keep our body healthy and strong, which prevents some diseases that are suffered in our country, such as obesity caused by a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet, so it needs to be promoted in our society.

This was mentioned by Deputy Manuel Guerrero Luna, when motivating his Initiative to reform the State Physical Culture and Sports Law to standardize it with the federal one, recently presented and which was referred to two legislative commissions of the branch, for study and analysis.

As he argued, Mexico stands out in various categories, especially for athletes who stand out nationally and internationally, such as: soccer, baseball, basketball, boxing, wrestling, swimming, gymnastics, etc.

Despite the fact that it is customary to have a healthy coexistence in these activities, he pointed out that on some occasions, there are usually acts of violence for various reasons that endanger both the participants of the sports game and the spectator public, as has happened in various sporting events both in our country as in the world.

She then mentioned that, despite the advancement of women’s participation in sports such as soccer and that there are currently several women’s teams, there are still more efforts to ensure that there is more participation through policies that promote equality sporty.

Manuel Guerrero cited that, statistically speaking, in Mexico men practice more sports than women, according to a survey carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) in 2016.

He said that, given the need for greater control of the order of sporting events and greater equality between men and women in the sports field, the reform of the General Law of Physical Culture and Sports arose at the federal level, which was published in the Diario Official of the Federation on March 30, 2022.

For these reasons, the Congressman proposed adding sections VIII and IX to article 41 of the General Law on Physical Culture and Sports, in order to prevent violence in massive sporting events and guarantee equal participation between women and men. Men who encourage physical and sports activities.
