Deolis Guerra invited by Oakland

Recovered from reconstructive surgery on the tendons of his right elbow, better known as the “Tommy John” operation, Guyanese pitcher Deolis Guerra will have the opportunity to return to the Major Leagues in 2023.

At 33 years of age, the reliever, a native of the town of San Félix, has just been invited to the spring training of the athleticsa team with which in 2021 he launched his sixth season in the majors.

After leaving a 4-1 mark with a 4.11 ERA in 53 appearances with the Oakland club last year, Guerra attended spring training in 2022. From the first days he felt discomfort in his elbow and before starting the season he underwent surgery by the Dr. Keith Master at a specialty center in Texas.

After nine months of having undergone the intervention, Guerra is at the stage in which he has started his own baseball activities, so it is estimated that by the opening of the training camp in Arizona, in mid-February, He will be in a position to fight to find a place in the club’s relief corps that Mark Kotsay will direct for the second season.

For life in MLB with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2015), Los Angeles Angels and Anaheim (2016-17) teams. Milwaukee Brewers (2019), Philadelphia Phillies (2020) and Oakland Athletics (2021), Guerra has pitched in 136 games and is 12-6 with a 4.54 ERA, 44 walks, 145 strikeouts in 168.2 innings and 1,239 of reaction tickets and hits allowed per innings pitched (WHIP).

In Venezuelan professional baseball, Guerra has been a member of the Navegantes del Magallanes since he was 19 years old. He has not acted in the LVBP since the 2020-21 campaign.

In 12 contests with the Turkish currency, he has seen action in 165 regular season games and presents a record of 13-13 with a 3.73 ERA. He was champion with Magallanes in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 editions.

Along with Guerra, Zulian catcher Yoel Pozo, who had MLB experience with Texas in 2021 and this year hit .320 with 6 home runs in AAA, will also attend training sessions for the Athletics as a guest.
