David Goffin launches his preparation for 2023 by beating Mannarino at the Open de Caen

David Goffin53rd in the ATP rankings, began his preparation for the 2023 tennis season with a victory over the French Adrian Mannarino (ATP 46), Monday evening at the Caen Open, an exhibition tournament played in France.

The 32-year-old from Liège won a double 6-4 in 1h06 of play. On Tuesday, he will face the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, 21st at the ATP. If he wins against Agut, Goffin will then play the final on Wednesday, against the Dane Holger Rune (ATP 11), winner of the ATP 1000 tournament at Paris-Bercy, or against the Frenchman Jules Marie (ATP 489).

This is David Goffin’s fourth appearance at the Open de Caen, which he won in 2013 by beating the Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the final, and of which he was also a finalist in 2014. A good test for the Belgian number 1 three weeks before the start of his 2023 season, on December 31 in Perth against Bulgaria Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 28) as part of the United Cup.
