Clara Azurmendi, a badminton player from the Basque Team, has won a silver medal in Canada. Azurmendi has climbed to the second place on the podium, together with Bea Corrales, in the doubles tournament of the Canadian International Challenge. Even though the pair gave it their all, they couldn’t overpower North Americans Annie and Kerry Xu. The match was very competitive, 21-15, 15-21 and 14-21.

Last Thursday, December 8, Clara Azurmendi and Beatriz Corrales entered the round of the best 16. In that first phase, Emma Meng and Ashley Wong were more than the Canadians, beating them 21-14. On the other hand, in the second day held on Friday, the victory was even easier for the Spaniards, winning 21-12 and 21-7 over the Canadians Chloe Choi and Sophia Nong.

Likewise, the semi-final turned out to be somewhat more difficult for them. But Azurmendi and Corrales played well, 21-18, 9-21 and 21-19, getting a ticket to the final. In the grand final, Azurmendi and Corrales started winning 21-15 in the first set, but could not keep up the pace in the remaining two sets, losing 15-21 in the second and 14-21 in the third.

In addition, Clara Azurmendi also took part in the individual test, in which she reached the elimination round of the best 16. Clara Azurmendi has her second silver this weekend, after the one she won in the Peru International Challenge. The next significant appointment is the mixed European team championship to be played in Geneva (Switzerland) on December 15.
