Cabinet first wants to see what Argentines are doing and only then choose World Cup delegation | Politics

Whoever sends the cabinet to the Netherlands-Argentina match next Friday depends on who Argentina sends to the World Cup in Qatar. Minister Liesje Schreinemacher (Foreign Trade) has this in the programme WNL on Sunday said.

If an Argentinian minister goes to Qatar, the Netherlands will also send a minister. The cabinet will also send a delegation if the Orange reaches the final.

Schreinemacher could not say whether, for example, Queen Máxima will go to the Gulf State if Argentine President Alberto Fernández attends the quarterfinals. Máxima is of Argentinian descent.

Sending a Dutch delegation to the World Cup in Qatar is politically sensitive because of the human rights violations in the country. The Lower House did not want a Dutch delegation to go to the World Cup, but the cabinet did so anyway. Qatar has liquefied gas and the cabinet therefore wants to keep the country on friendly terms.

Sports minister Conny Helder was present at the group match between the Netherlands and Qatar (2-0). There she did not wear the OneLove band, but a pin. Over it she wore a scarf with the text: “Never mind (Never mind, ed.).” The minister said she chose that scarf because of the orange color. When she realized the text on it, she took it off.
