Bulgarian chair umpire suspended for six months for illegal betting

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has suspended Bulgarian chair umpire Stefan Milanov for six months and fined $10,000. after admitting to having made bets on matches, including one in which he was a part as a referee.

Milanovaccording to ITIA research, committed two offenses included in the Anti-Corruption in Tennis Program related to the prohibition of placing bets directly or indirectly in any competition. The Bulgarian chair umpire himself acknowledged the violation of the regulations.

The sanction entered into force on November 15 and will end on May 14, 2023. During this period, Stefan Milanov will not be able to referee or attend any tournament that is under the control of the governing bodies of international tennis.

ITIA is an independent body createdaccording to its statutes, to “promote, encourage, empower and safeguard” the integrity of professional tennis throughout the world.
