Brian Riemer cautious after victory in Charleroi: ‘It’s partly Anderlecht that I want to see but we still have to prove ourselves’

While the match should probably have ended in a draw, Anderlecht won Sporting’s duel against Charleroi at the end of the match. An obviously highly symbolic victory for Brian Riemerfreshly arrived at Saint-Guidon, who was coaching his first league match.

Smiling and eminently talkative, probably released by the victory, the Danish coach appeared at the microphone of Eleven Sports after the meeting: “It’s an incredible feeling to be able to start with a victory. The ground was difficult and we faced a good team from Charleroi, who defended low and who were well in place in their 5-3-2. It was difficult to maneuver so happy to take the three points.”

A trainer who will also have been able to do his part of the job since his coaching turned out to be a winner, the substitutes Anouar Ait El Hadj et Benito Raman being involved on the only goal of the match: “That’s exactly what I want to seeRiemer agrees out of hand.I have always said that there are starters, substitutes and supporters. Today the substitutes and supporters made a big difference. It exemplifies everything football should actually be. It’s not just 11 starters, it’s a whole team. Seeing them step into the game looking so fresh at this time of year was fantastic.”

A goal during which we could see some snippets of Sporting which Brian Riemer probably dreams of. An Anderlecht which deploys quickly forward and which does not hesitate in taking initiatives: “Yes, I want us to take the initiative for 90 minutes, to press high, to be strong with the ball. Obviously, we have to create more chances and goals than today, but I repeat, a trip to Charleroi is never easy.

So it was partly Anderlecht that I want to see but we still have to prove ourselves. When I saw Amuzu miss that chance in front of goal, I thought we were never going to score. But football is like that. Sometimes we score goals in a row and sometimes it doesn’t. But hey, the guys gave it their all, they kept pushing to score. This is the main !”
