Badminton Zamora says goodbye to the year with a fifth place in the Senior Spanish Championship

The CD Badminton Zamora says goodbye to the 2022 season in a bittersweet way, achieving Raúl López a creditable fifth place in IM A2 (from 35 to 40 years old), but with a feeling of having been able to improve these results, both individually and in doubles, together with his partner Aitor Llandres, in the Senior Spanish Championship held in the Asturian town of Gijón.

In men’s doubles, The Zamora couple had very bad luck in the draw, forming group C three of the four best couples on the national scene. In fact, the final was played by two of these couples. Despite this, Raúl and Aitor were not intimidated and won their first match by a tight 24-22 in the third set. Impressive match matched at all times, with heart attack points, which fell to the Zamorano side, virtually obtaining first place in the group.

In the second game it did not happen in the same way, losing to the Andalusian couple, who ultimately won the competition. The last duel of the group remained, where the result was the worst possible for the Zamoranos, giving themselves a triple tie, finally being left out of the fight for the medals, due to a difference in points.

In the A2 men’s singles modality, the best result for the club came, with fifth place for Raúl López, there being once again that feeling of being able to reach the fight for the medals, since, in the same way as in the doubles, luck meant that in the quarterfinal round he faced the champion of the competition and seeded number 1 in the ranking, a player who proved to be above the rest, taking the tournament victory without dropping a single set .

The CD Badminton Zamora puts an end to the 2022 season, with three fifth places in these Spanish Championships that are the culmination of a year of work, in the sub11, sub17 and Senior categories, demonstrating that they have climbed a step at the national level, approaching to what will be an objective next season, to reach the fight for the medals, reaching, at least, the semifinal round without giving up being in a final of the Spanish championship.
