Australian Open – Record prize money at Australian Open

Melbourne (SID) – With a total of more than 50 million US dollars, record prize money will be paid out at the upcoming Australian Open for tennis professionals. The tournament winners receive the equivalent of around two million US dollars at the first Grand Slam of the year, and the total payout increases by 3.4 percent.

Tournament Director Craig Tiley said: “It is vital to the continued success of the Australian tennis summer that the best players in the world are properly rewarded. “At the Australian Open we have increased the prize money for each round from qualification to the final, with the biggest raises are in the early rounds.”

Prize money has increased by more than 321 percent over the past 20 years. The Australian Open begins on January 16 in Melbourne.
