At the Médiévales de Revel, the bastide celebrates its 680th anniversary

This Sunday, December 11, the bastide of Revel celebrates its 680 candles with a festive program for its Medieval.

The official ceremony to launch the construction of the city took place on June 8, 1342. Through the “planté du pal”, a wooden mast in the center of the future city, the construction of the bastide could begin. 680 years later, the town of Revel organizes Medieval to celebrate his birthdaywithout forgetting its heritage.

This day of entertainment is held this Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. On the program: falconry, troubadours, parades, tournaments, games, archery…

The program of the Medieval of Revel

The day begins at 10 a.m. with the sound of the trumpets, followed by the reading of the Charter for the creation of the city by the mayor of Revel, Laurent Hourquet, and a costumed parade of riders and acrobats. A falconry show takes place at 11:30 a.m., then at 2 p.m.

At 3 p.m., the acrobats, troubadours and riders will form a procession to take the crowd to the tournament of chivalry, which will take place half an hour later at the bowling alley. The medieval events will continue at 5 p.m. at the belfry of Revel, with in particular fire jugglers for the grand finale.

The belfry also hosts activities throughout the day. A gourmet market, initiation to archery, combat or calligraphy… But also medieval wooden games and candy catapults for children.

Acrobats, stilt walkers and jugglers will take care of the show, while falconers will present the history of their discipline and present the different species. For fans of the town’s medieval history, an exhibition of historical documents on the founding of the city will be offered by the Revel Historical Society.
