Marco Odermatt offered a new demonstration of his talent in the giant of Val d’Isère. The Nidwalden was 1”40 ahead of his first pursuer Manuel Feller to pick up his 14th success in the World Cup, the 9th in the discipline and the 3rd already this season.
Marco Odermatt’s dominance is overwhelming. The prodigy from Hergiswil has finished on the podium in the last 11 World Cup events he has competed in. And, if we include the Beijing Olympics, there are 11 podiums in 11 giants run since the start of the 2021/22 season, with 7 victories in the process, including Olympic gold!
Winner with 0”76 ahead of his runner-up (Zan Kranjec) at the end of October in Sölden, Marco Odermatt had the luxury of setting the best time of the two races on Saturday. He increased his lead over Manuel Feller from 0.45 to 1.40 despite reduced visibility in the second heat. Third, Zan Kranjec conceded 2”05!
Meillard in 10th place
Behind the extra-terrestrial Marco Odermatt, a 2nd Swiss climbed into the top-10. Seventh in Sölden, out of the points in the three speed events he competed in North America, Loïc Meillard took 10th place at 2”95. He certainly hoped for better after setting the fifth fastest time on the first track.
Second rider to start this second round, Graubünden Thomas Tumler took advantage of ideal conditions to gain 15 places and obtain his best result of the year 2022 (14th). Fadri Janutin (17th) and Livio Simonet (19th) also obtained valuable points in this 2nd giant of the winter.
