Unterfoehring, December 6, 2022 – More than half a year after he was seriously injured in the semifinals of the French Open, Alexander Zverev is celebrating his comeback on Thursday. At the Diriyah Tennis Cup he will be measuring himself against the best tennis professionals in the world for the first time since the bitter end to Rafael Nadal.

In addition to Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Taylor Fritz, Nick Kyrgios, Matteo Berrettini, Hubert Hurkacz, Cameron Norrie, Dominic Stricker and Stan Wawrinka are also part of the party. The winner of the invitation tournament in Saudi Arabia will receive a prize of one million US dollars.

The format of the twelve-player tournament provides that the four top-ranked professionals receive a bye for the first round, which, like the subsequent quarter-finals, will be held on Thursday. The semi-finals and the final take place on the following two days. However, the tournament is not over for the eight losers of the first round and quarter-final matches: they are playing a doubles competition, the semi-finals and finals of which will also be played on Friday and Saturday.

The actual pairings will be drawn on Wednesday. From Thursday to Saturday, Sky will broadcast all of the event’s matches live, including an exhibition match on the final day, with the original English commentary.
