On Friday, December 16, Valmiera was visited by the President of the European Cycling Union (UEC) Enriko Della Kasa and the President of the Latvian Cycling Federation (LRF) Sandis Īkis. During the visit, a tripartite agreement was signed on granting the right to host the 2025 European BMX Championship to Valmiera. Holding the European Championship for the second time in six years is a great assessment for the entire BMX family in Latvia, as well as for the municipality of Valmiera region, emphasizes the regional authority.

Freivalde reminds that the 2019 championship in Valmiera earned a high rating from the participants, team managers and UEC. Also during this meeting, promises were made that everything will be at the highest level in the 2025 European Championship, while the organizers promised that serious preparations would be made in order to honor the trust expressed. As a confirmation that the Mar Strömberg BMX track “Valmiera” meets the highest standards, UEC President Della Casa also presented the UEC Northern European BMX Center with an honorary badge.

In addition to that, the readiness for the 2023 UEC European BMX Cup stages in Valmiera was also discussed during the visit – on May 6 and 7, when the fifth and sixth stages of the series will be held. Valmiera will also have the right to host the European Cup in 2024. At the end of the visit, UEC President Della Kasa, together with representatives of the Latvian Cycling Federation, also visited and praised the renovated Jānis Daliņš Stadium and the new athletics arena.

The holding of the European BMX Championship in Valmiera will be an opportunity for local residents to watch top-level BMX cycling competitions in person, and will also attract foreign visitors, creating a positive impact on the tourism and hospitality industry, the local government and the national economy. The competition will be broadcast in Europe’s largest sports media, which in turn will promote both the recognition of Valmiera region and the sounding of Latvia’s name in the international sports arena, the municipality predicts.
