– The SCB needs a lot of patience
For a very long time, weakened Berners have been lagging behind against the promoted team. Until they suddenly become very efficient.

For exactly one half of the game, SC Bern was trailing behind against Kloten, and at some point the question arose as to whether they would actually lose their second home game against the promoted team. In the middle third, SCB reacted immediately with brisk forechecking to the 0:1 traded in the first third. But this didn’t bring a goal threat for a long time, a few uncontrolled Klotener icings were the only result.
The worries were unfounded, in the end SCB won comfortably 5:2 because it suddenly became very efficient in the 31st minute. At the origin there were two hits within 18 seconds.
The first was a textbook example of what “move to goal” means: goalscorer Joshua Fahrni ran towards the slot just as purposefully as assistants Sven Bärtschi and Fabian Ritzmann. The second, on the other hand, was one for the circus: it was spectacular how Simon Moser not only arranged the puck in the air, but also threw it under the bar like a baseball player.
The turnaround gave the weakened SCB security, of all things in a bad power play shortly afterwards, he almost threw away the momentum again. But after another double strike with goals worth seeing at the beginning of the final period, there were soon no longer any open questions about the winner. At the end of the game, the 5:2 saw a rare “technical goal” for the spectators: The puck didn’t even have to go into the Kloten goalkeeper’s box because Thierry Bader had been fouled in a penalty.
A canceled goal throws the SCB off track
The starting third showed how fragile this SCB is in this condition with six missing regular players. The Bernese started powerfully, they made it 1-0 after a good six minutes when Oscar Lindberg deflected Romain Loeffel’s long-range shot into the goal on a power play. The blemish: a fraction of a second earlier, the Swede had touched Kloten’s goalie Sandro Zurkirchen’s catch hand with his right elbow – the Kloten Coach’s Challenge consequently resulted in the goal being annulled.

Of course, the Bern audience raged afterwards, and the anger unleashed on the referees. Only: They have been rigorously enforcing the goalie disability rule since this season at the express request of the clubs, so from that point of view the decision was the right one.
It was questionable from Berner Optik how this one unfortunate action was enough to throw SCB completely off track by the end of the third period. He could even be happy to be only 1-0 down, even though the goal, scored by Jonathan Ang with just one hand on the stick, could easily have been prevented by Bernese defender Beat Gerber with better defensive work.
In the end, all of this no longer played a role for SCB – thanks to its efficiency in “Half 2”.
