2018 World Champion Matuidi retired

French midfielder Blaise Matuidi ended his career at the age of 35. The 2018 world champion announced the decision to hang up his boots in a video message on YouTube.

“It’s time for the curtain to fall,” said the owner of four French and three Italian titles. Football, you gave me so much… With a lump in my throat, but with pride, I turn the page” Matuidi said on Twitter.

The French footballer of the year 2015 worked successively in Troyes, St. Étienne, Paris St. Germain, Juventus and most recently in the overseas team Inter Miami, where he left the Italian club in the summer of 2020. However, he did not play a single match for the American team this season, 2022, his contract there expires at the end of the year.

He took part in two World Cups, and at the last championship in Russia he was in the starting line-up and in the final duel with Croatia (4:2). He ended his international career a year later with 84 starts and nine goals.
