13-year-old Lionel Messi did not only dream of football: “Becoming a gym teacher, eating a lot of chicken and crazy about model Nicole”

Lionel Messi (35) can become even more legendary than he already is by becoming world champion with Argentina on Sunday. At thirteen, he was less ambitious. An old interview is now going viral in his home country. About football, but also about other dreams.

Lionel Messi’s very first interview appeared on September 3, 2000 in the Argentine newspaper Dario La Capital. The current star player was then with his youth team in Argentina, Newell’s Old Boys. It was just before his switch to the Spanish Barcelona. An anthology. His great example? “His father Jorge.”. His fondest memory? “When grandma took me to a football match for the first time.”. His favorite book: “The Bible.” His favorite second sport after football: “Handball”. What if he cannot become a football professional: “Then I will become a PE teacher.” His favorite movie: “Baby’s Day Out;” His favorite hobby: “Listening to music. Preferably: cuarteto and cumbia. Favorite meal? “Chicken with lots of sauce.” Most beautiful model? “Nicole Neumann.” Most important quality: “Humility. A person should never lose that.” And his great hope? “Ever playing in the first division. And gladly with the first team of Newell’s Old Boys. But my dream is to play for Argentina.” That dream has more than come true. It can all get even better on Sunday.”
