WTA > “How to play and perform when you have no news from your family and you know that in one day more than 100 missiles have attacked your country?” asks the 81st in the world, Marina Zanevska

Despite a successful season where she finished in the world top 100 (81e this week), the Belgian of Ukrainian origin, Marina Zanevska, does not really have the heart to celebrate.

Constantly anxious since her country was at war with Russia on February 20, the 29-year-old posted a very moving message on her Instagram account recalling the difficulty of exercising her profession when part of her family is stuck under the bombs.

“I finished in the top 100, which seems like a successful year since you see me in picture 1, but if you scroll down, that’s what took me. Since February 24, my life has split into two parts: before and after. Since day one, I’ve been telling myself that I can’t feel bad, because there are people losing their lives, their families, their homes. Every time I do something for myself, I feel guilty. I don’t know how to deal with it. (…) It is not written anywhere in the books how to manage the stress and the fear of war. How to play and perform when you have no news from your family and you know that in one day more than 100 missiles attacked your country. No one can give you advice, all you have to do is find a solution yourself. »
