World Cup out for Bayern star Alphonso Davies? “Now let’s wait”

Update from November 5, 6:53 p.m.: That doesn’t sound good at all, what Julian Nagelsmann says about Alphonso Davies after FC Bayern’s 3-2 win at Hertha BSC. “According to the doc, there is at least one fiber tear, but that’s just the tactile finding,” said the Bayern coach at the press conference after the game: “Now we’ll wait and see what comes out tomorrow.” Maybe tonight.”

The World Cup in Qatar starts in two weeks. Davies would start the tournament with Canada on November 23 against Belgium. If the muscle fiber tear in the rear thigh is confirmed, this could mean the World Cup for the 22-year-old.

First report, November 5, 5:10 p.m.: Berlin – Wow, that didn’t look good at all! FC Bayern is worried about Alphonso Davies after the game at Hertha BSC. The left-back had to be substituted against the old lady in the 64th minute. What happened?

Everything happened very quickly: Davies stopped after a defensive sprint in the 63rd minute when the score was 3:2 for Bayern and immediately grabbed his right rear thigh. Joshua Kimmich rushed straight to the 22-year-old, even referee Bastian Dankert looked at Davies and then pointed in the direction of Bayern-Bank: Replace!

Lucas Hernandez celebrated his comeback for him. The Frenchman last played in the Bundesliga in August before tearing a muscle bundle in the adductor area against FC Barcelona in the Champions League. Apparently he got fit again in time for the 2022 World Cup. But now Davies could fear for his participation in the desert tournament.

Alphonso Davies: Worry! Bayern star injured against Hertha – is the World Cup threatened?

Because apparently it’s a muscle injury in the Canadian. It is currently not possible to say exactly how difficult this is. After the game, Bayern are likely to comment on this.

In addition to Hernandez, Manuel Neuer was back on the pitch. The FCB captain was also absent for four weeks due to a shoulder injury. There is also more good news for national coach Hansi Flick: Leroy Sané came on as a substitute against Hertha in the 75th minute after tearing a muscle fiber and the week-long break that followed.

Timo Werner, on the other hand, has a lot of bad luck. The DFB attacker tore a syndesmosis ligament in the premier class in RB Leipzig’s 4-0 win at Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday and will miss the World Cup. It is to be hoped that Davies does not meet a similar fate. (smk)
