World Cup: Marcus Thuram called up

There will be a 26th guest this Monday at Clairefontaine. As reported by the team, information that we are able to confirm, Didier Deschamps, the coach of the France team called Marcus Thuram to compete in the World Cup (November 20 – December 18). With the reinforcement of the striker from Mönchengladbach (13 goals, 4 assists in all competitions), this is the list increased to 26 elements as authorized by the regulations.

It remains to be seen whether this will be the final list or whether it will still include modifications by this Monday evening at 7 p.m., the deadline for transmitting it to Fifa. Particularly successful this season, the son of Lilian Thuram, world champion in 1998, had not been called up to the Blues since Euro 2021. He currently has 4 selections, the last dating back to June 28, 2021 against the Switzerland in the round of 16 of the European Championship. He then replaced Kingsley Coman during extra time.

His versatility allows him to occupy indifferently, with equal success, all attacking positions. His excellent start to the season even earned him a strong interest from Bayern Munich.

According to article 24, paragraph 3 of the FIFA regulations, a player on the final list, published on November 15, can only be replaced in the event of “serious illness or injury no later than 24 hours before the kick-off of his team’s first match. Concretely, if one or more French players were to give up, Deschamps would therefore have until November 21, the day before France-Australia, to formalize their replacement(s). Which does not necessarily have to be part of the provisional list of 55 names in possession of FIFA for a few weeks already.
