World Cup 2022 in Qatar: Ex-DFB star Özil: I trust Germany – FOOTBALL

He still seems to be following the DFB team closely…

Four years after his noisy departure, Mesut Özil (34/has been playing for Basaksehir Istanbul since the summer) is now revealing what he believes Hansi Flick’s (57) team can do at the World Cup in Qatar!

Özil in an interview with the internet portal “onefootball.com”: “Many do not count Germany among the strongest teams – both because of the performances in the last major tournaments and in the Nations League. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing — maybe it’s an opportunity. The chance to prove them wrong. Germany is a tournament team, after the World Cup nobody will be interested in the results of the Nations League.”

Özil is sure that the DFB team will be hard to beat!

“Germany has many top-class players – Antonio Rüdiger has developed amazingly in recent years and is now one of the best defenders in the world, but Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry also have what it takes to be among the key players of the tournament,” added the 92 -time national player, who ended his DFB career after losing the preliminary round at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. There had previously been a lot of fuss about a photo of Özil with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

With a view to his favorites for the world title, Özil says: “There are a few teams that are currently in good shape: I’m thinking of Brazil with their excellent attacking players, but also of France, which has a great squad, Argentina and England.”

The DFB team meets Japan in the first group game (November 23, 2 p.m.), then Spain (November 27, 8 p.m.) and finally Costa Rica (December 1, 8 p.m.).

It remains to be seen whether Özil will be right in his prediction…
